HB1288 – County Boards of Education – Appointed Members in Leadership Positions – Prohibition will be heard in the Ways & Means Committee on Wednesday, March 11. Sponsored by Delegate Andre Johnson, this bill will prohibit politically appointed school board members from holding leadership positions from which they can wield undue influence.

HB0630 Correctional Services – Immigration Detention Facilities – Original Design and Construction will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on 3/11. This emergency bill will prohibit the operation of an immigration detention facility at a building, structure, or facility that was not originally designed and constructed for the purpose of housing or detaining individuals.

Actions you can take to increase law enforcement transparency and accountability
HB1415 Public Safety – Law Enforcement Officers – Identification will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 10. This bill will require the development of a model policy requiring the use of visible identification by law enforcement officers in the course of while on duty. It will increase transparency and accountability by law enforcement at all levels throughout the state of Maryland.
Contact your delegate on the Judiciary Committee and urge them to support HB1415 with a vote for a favorable report.

Oppose Markwayne Mullin as DHS Secretary
Mullin is an immigration hardliner. He co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act, defended the ICE agents who murdered Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and said that children who are U.S. citizens should be deported if their parents are.

Protect Maryland from ICE
SB0810 – Public Schools – School Security Personnel – Immigration Investigation and Enforcement will be heard in the Senate Energy, Education and Environment on Wednesday, March 4. This bill will protect students and staff by prohibiting school security personnel from engaging in federal immigration investigation and enforcement functions and from sharing student and staff information.
Deadline for written testimony and/or registration for spoken testimony – Monday March 2, 8am-6pm.

HB1262 – Public Safety – Law Enforcement Officers – Restrictions will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on on Thursday, March 5. This bill will require that enforcement officers act in accordance with State law, will prohibit racial profiling, and will protect whistleblowers.

HB1036 Office of the Attorney General – Independent Investigations Division – Federal Law Enforcement or Immigration Enforcement will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 5. This bill will require the independent investigations by the Office of the Attorney General of the death of a person that occurs in connection with an interaction with federal law enforcement or federal immigration enforcement. It will require reports to the Governor and the General Assembly following investigation and prosecution of cases where warranted.

Stop Voter Suppression Bills
On February 11 , the House passed H.R. 7296 the SAVE America Act , and it is now pending a vote in the Senate. This bill will block even more citizens from voting than the original SAVE Act, including documentary proof-of-citizenship (American passport or birth certificate) “in person” for registration, requiring photo identification in order to cast a ballot in person, onerous new rules for mail-in ballots, and requiring voters to submit a copy of an eligible ID when requesting and casting an absentee ballot.
Contact Senators Angela Alsobrooks (202-224-4524) and Chris Van Hollen (202-224-4654) to let them know you oppose the SAVE America Act and any bill that suppresses the vote and thank them for standing firm against these assaults on the right of all citizens to vote.

BOARD OF EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
We have seen the damage being done to our public education by our current Board of Education, which is dominated by extremist members, both those elected and those appointed by the County Executive. The only way to change that is to change who the elected officials are. There will be an almost complete turn over of the Board of Education as many members are choosing not to run again, or are term limited from running again.
We need to start organizing a volunteer force to help those candidates that align with the Mission and Vision of Together We Will Harford County.

DOGE and the Privacy Act – Answer Jamie Raskin’s call to file a Freedom of Information (FOIA) or Privacy Act request with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Take steps to protect your own private data. Whistleblowers allege this an attempt by DOGE to build a “master database” on American citizens that can be used for improper reasons or repressive goals and to weaponize the information to use against people they dislike, dissidents, surveil immigrants or other target groups.

Call your Congressperson and Senators: Tell them to extend Telehealth options in Medicaid and Medicare. Tell them to fight any cuts to Medicaid, the President promised Medicaid would not be touched.
Email and call the (1) House Judiciary, (2) Ways & Means committees, and (3) the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, especially your representatives, and ask them to support HOUSE BILL 1433 (SB422) CHILDREN ARE REDEEMABLE. This bill would raise the age at which a juvenile can be tried as an adult from 14 (current law), to 16.
Email and Call the County Executive first and then your County Council rep. Tell the County Executive that increased funding to Harford County Public Schools is a necessity and is his responsibility. County funding has continued to DECREASE as a portion of the County Budget.
